Hi! My name is Amma Gyamfowa. I am the Founder and Lead Clinical Therapist of Womanist Healing Counselling Services and Co-Founder of The Healing Retreat. As a Ghanaian-Canadian mental health therapist, registered social worker, community researcher, and international speaker, I have spent the last ten years supporting youth and diverse communities in their mental health journeys.
I believe that investing in mental health transforms every part of our lives. My work centers on creating safe, accessible, and affirming resources for all identities, understanding that depression, anxiety, trauma, and family challenges can shape our self-perceptions. In one-on-one sessions, I collaborate with clients to develop personalized plans for growth and healing, utilizing approaches like narrative and cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and art-based techniques.
Together, we explore underlying patterns, emotions, and environments that may be holding you back, using a trauma-informed and strength-based lens to foster resilience. If you're ready to ignite your healing journey, I invite you to reach out for a free consultation.

Hi! My name is Kimberley Book and I’m a registered social worker, psychotherapist. As a Black woman with roots in Trinidad, USA, Italy, and Ireland, I’m honoured to be on a team that is dedicated to supporting Black mental health in Canada.
With nearly 20 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of working as a crisis counsellor, holistic practitioner, and therapist. I’m passionate about mind-body approaches to healing, and specialize in supporting adults experiencing anxiety, chronic stress, relationship challenges, and trauma-related symptoms such as emotional overwhelm, numbness, hypervigilance, irritability, insomnia, disconnection, and shame. These symptoms often reflect how our bodies try to keep us safe, and can feel so ingrained that they seem like part of who we are.
Through a combination of balancing the nervous system and exploring factors such as family history, culture, spirituality, oppression, health, and past experiences, these symptoms and patterns can soften over time. As they do, you may start to feel lighter, more aligned, and more connected.
My approach is collaborative, culturally-affirming, and grounded in neuroscience. In our sessions, I use mindfulness-based strategies, narrative therapy, somatic approaches, EMDR, and anti-oppressive practices to support you as you move towards your goals. I hope to connect with you soon!
